Police Museum Honors 61 Years of Bravery, Dedication and Sacrifice

On July 27, 2014 Howard County Police Department celebrated the grand opening of the new Howard County Police Museum in Ellicott City, Maryland. As the designer and fabricator of the museum exhibits, Adler Display was pleased to join in the opening celebration of this historic museum.

The new museum is dedicated to showing the bravery, dedication and sacrifices of the men and women of the police department. “We are proud of the Howard County Department and the key role it has played in this community,” Police Chief William McMahon said in a statement. “We believe that preserving our past is an important part of protecting our future.”

Museum exhibits on fallen officers, vintage uniforms, past chiefs of police and antique weapons are designed to honor the past 61 years of law enforcement in Howard County. The biggest challenge of creating the museum, that has the look and feel of a police department, was fitting years of historic information into a limited space.

“This project gave Adler Display the opportunity to showcase our creativity and ability to bring such an important topic, such as the Howard County Police Department, to life. I am very pleased with the exhibits. It was a pleasure working with everyone involved in this project, including Captain Daniel Coon,” explained Ron Adler, President of Adler Display.

In his comments to Adler Display regarding the new museum, Captain Coon said, “We had a lot of positive feedback and comments. I think we achieved the wow factor…. Thanks for all of your hard work and we hope you are all as pleased with the outcome as we are.”

The museum, staffed by volunteers, was funded by donations from various organizations and individuals, including Howard County Police Foundation, Supervisors’ Alliance and Retired Officers Association.

Located at 8267 Main Street inside the Howard County Welcome Center, the museum is open to the public Wednesdays through Sundays. The Howard County Police Foundation is selling commemorative Howard County coins, as well as limited edition miniature cars, to raise money for the museum.
