During the course of a month Adler Designer Piotr Wolff worked with the library staff to finalize the design. The library wanted to include a puppet theater, children’s kitchen area, seating for parents, and ample book cases and storage space.
Once the parameters were set, Wolff went to work on the design. “It was important that the design, and particularly the materials we used, would be both safe for the children to play and sturdy enough to outlast the constant wear and tear of daily use. That is why we chose custom-printed laminates and rounded corners on all edges,” explained Wolff. “To create an immersive environment we included clouds on the ceiling, window film, and rolling hill elements. I wanted to transform the space into a forest—no longer a room in a library building. I also chose a softer, storybook feel for the design instead of something more literal and realistic looking.”
In the next phase of the project, Adler will be creating a history display of Mount Airy for the common area of the library. For more information on library environments visit: http://www.adlerdisplay.com/custom-solutions/education/library-installations/
