Reception Desk Brings Upscale Look & Feel

Project: Reception Desk for Dr. Kalyani, Ophthalmologist

This project was a referral from local architect Arium AE, located in Columbia MD.  Dr. Kalyani is a Ophthalmologist with extensive training that includes the most modern techniques of cataract, cornea, and refractive surgery.  He gives talks at national meetings and has authored numerous articles.  His new practice is located in Arundel Mills, in a very upscale, modern commercial office space.  Dr. Kalyani's vision for his reception desk was one that projected an upscale image, was more like furniture, and movable should he relocate in the future.

Dr. Kalyani was very excited about the look and feel of the entire suite.  The desk integrated well and coordinated nicely with a coffee station, design by Arium AE which used the same laminate.  Dr. Kalyani also liked the way Adler Display designed a wire-management system into the desk to give a clean finish underneath with no hanging wires.

Arium AE asked Adler Display Studios to work with Dr. Kalyani on the design and fabrication of his reception desk.  The desk includes a curved front with a gorgeous curved glass transaction counter.  The glass attaches by silver barrel, metal stand-offs for a contemporary flare. It was customized to include space for two "check-out" stations on one side.  The kick plate height and depth creates added drama to the desk and is featured in silver laminate. A silver laminate banding was added as well to echo the base.  The main laminate was a Walnut.

The overall size of the desk was 124 1/2" x 136".  Arium AE worked with Adler Display in providing specs for the basic footprint and to ensure the required codes for aisles and ADA were maintained.  After Dr. Kalyani approved the final design Arium AE dropped the design into the CAD so the other trades could locate the cloud and pendant lights over the desk.
